Obwohl es ein Kinderbuch ist, habe ich (60+) das Buch für mich gekauft, weil ich Obama mag und wissen wollte, was er da für seine Mädchen geschrieben hat. Es ist ein lehrreiches und sehr liebenswertes Buch. Natürlich wird man als Nicht-Amerikaner(in) die eine oder andere darin erwähnte Persönlichkeit googeln, aber das ist ja kein Problem. Bei Gelegenheit werde ich versuchen es so kindgerecht wie möglich ins Deutsche zu übertragen um es meinen Enkelsöhnen vorzulesen. Eindeutig Kaufempfehlung für alle (aber nicht nur!), die Amerika mögen und die etwas über sehr oder (uns) kaum bekannte Helden der Geschichte oder des Alltags lernen wollen.I (60+ and a German citizen) bought the book for myself although it is for kids because I like Obama and wanted to know what kinds of messages he wrote down for his girls in it. Its pages on the left hand side ("Have I told you that you are ...") moved me to tears. It is really a book full of love, and information. Of course, as a non-American, one might have to google one or two persons but that shouldn't be a real problem. Maybe that is even the idea behind the book! On occasion, I'll try and translate it into German in order to introduce it to my grandsons. Recommendation to buy it first of all for those who like Obama and want to know more about real American heroes.

Wir haben dieses Buch unserem 7-jährigen Kind geschenkt. Es hat sich am Anfang für das Buch interessiert, es enthält sehr schöne Bilder. Die Texte sind kurz und verständlich. Unser Kind ist nicht nur englisch muttersprachlich. Deshalb konnte es den Text nicht immer ohne Hilfe verstehen. Und auch wenn es den Text dann versteht, kann ein Kind dieses Buch wirklich nur zusammen mit einem Erwachsenen lesen, der das nötige Hintergrundwissen hat und erklären kann, was gemeint ist. Ich würde behaupten, dass in Deutschland vielleicht nicht unbedingt jeder erwachsene Leser jede der vorgestellten Persönlichkeiten kennt. Für Amerikaner dürfte es kein Problem sein. Das Buch regt sicherlich dazu an, dass man mit seinem Kind ins Gespräch kommt, was gut und wichtig ist im Leben... Unser 7-jähriges Kind wollte es nicht wirklich lesen. Nachdem wir es dann einmal durch hatten, hat es dieses Buch seit dem nicht wieder zum darin Lesen oder Schauen gewählt. Da sind andere Bücher im Moment interessanter (star wars, ninjago, caillou, ...). Wir Erwachsenen denken daran, wer dieses Buch geschrieben hat. Ehrlich gesagt, haben wir es nur deshalb gekauft. Naja, es zeigt viel "Vaterlandsstolz". Den kann man ja auch haben. In jeder Nation gibt es Positivies zu berichten. Naja, ich finde es okay. Für unser 7-jähriges Kind war das Buch uninteressant.
